Blue Bike SC celebrated its third anniversary on Oct. 8 at the State House grounds.
Planning to join Blue Bike SC were BlueCross BlueShield representatives from South Carolina, The COMET and the Bike Pedestrian Advisory Committee, according to the Columbia City website.
“We are proud and excited to celebrate three years as the title sponsor for Blue Bike SC," said Elizabeth Niku Johnson, director of community relations for BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina, according to the website. "This is such an important investment in the health of our community, and it is an honor to be able to support Columbia’s bike share program. We hope riders will continue to explore the greater Columbia area in a fun, healthy way for years to come.”
Blue Bike SC is designed to promote short bike trips within core communities, where clusters of large employers, colleges, shopping, tourist destinations and residents can readily be connected, according to Blue Bike SC.
Since its launching three years ago, a total of 81,638.98 miles have been traveled on these bikes, in a total of 31,816 rides, Blue Bike SC says.
In the current year, 6,707 rides and 17,715.50 miles had been traveled, according to Blue Bike SC.
