The Saluda Riverwalk officially opened late last month with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Columbia.

The walkway off Candi Lane is part of a three-phase project that will allow people to view and enjoy the surrounding landscape, according to an ABC Columbia report.

"This is one great example of all the people in the midlands coming together to make this happen," City Councilor Howard Duvall said during the ribbon-cutting ceremony in a tweet by Columbia Parks and Recreation.

The Saluda Riverwalk is approximately 2.5 miles long, and has paved walkways and boardwalk and complies with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act, according to Along the Greenway, a blog dedicated to events related to the Three Rivers Greenway in the Midlands of South Carolina.

“The Saluda Riverwalk offers [nearly] 3 miles of paved walkway or boardwalk along the Saluda River, offering citizens an experience with some amazing views, fishing, floating, walking, running, biking and offering to a chance to relax and enjoy the outdoors,” Henry M. Simons, assistant City Manager for Operations, told ABC Columbia.

Additionally, plans are underway to link the Saluda Riverwalk to Boyd Island; the concrete section of the path on the island has been completed for months, but the main connection to the bridge remains unpaved.
