Tim Scott, U.S. Senator representing South Carolina, posted a series of updates on his Twitter account in August 2025 covering education policy, Social Security, and service academy nominations.
On August 13, 2025, Scott promoted a new legislative initiative: “The One Big Beautiful Bill’s tax credit scholarship program is designed to give every child a real shot at success. By creating multiple pathways to high-quality education, we can make sure that no child remains trapped in an unsafe or failing school.” The bill aims to provide more educational opportunities through tax credit scholarships for children nationwide.
A day later, on the anniversary of Social Security’s founding, Scott addressed changes proposed by the same legislation: “Social Security was established 90 years ago today. After years of earning their Social Security, the majority of America’s seniors will pay no tax on Social Security benefits thanks to the One Big Beautiful Bill.” This statement references efforts to adjust taxation policies for retirees’ benefits.
Also on August 14, Scott highlighted opportunities for young constituents interested in military service: “My office is accepting applications for nominations to our nation’s service academies. Gaining acceptance to one of these distinguished institutions is a tremendous honor, and I look forward to nominating the best and brightest of South Carolina.”
Senator Tim Scott has previously advocated for expanded school choice programs and reforms aimed at increasing access to quality education across socioeconomic backgrounds. In addition, debates over taxing Social Security benefits have persisted in Congress; some lawmakers argue that reducing or eliminating taxes on these benefits could ease financial burdens for retirees while impacting federal revenue streams.
