Senator Tim Scott, currently serving as Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, shared a series of posts on July 29 and 30, 2025, outlining recent legislative efforts and policy priorities related to economic issues affecting South Carolinians and small businesses.
In a post dated July 29, 2025, Scott stated: “The One Big Beautiful Bill means South Carolinians are bringing more of their hard-earned money back home to their families.”
Later that day, he addressed concerns about the Small Business Administration (SBA) as a direct lender: “The SBA has a poor track record as a direct lender, especially compared to local banks that know the communities they serve. The Protecting Access to Credit for Small Businesses Act that I just introduced would protect Main Street by making sure big government doesn’t disrupt a”.
On July 30, Scott highlighted his leadership role in housing reform: “When taking over as Ranking Member in 2023, I pledged to make housing a top priority and have pushed for commonsense reforms to reverse decades of failed housing policies. Now, as Chairman of @bankinggop, I am proud to advance the ROAD to Housing Act to tackle these very”.
Scott’s comments come at a time when Congress is considering multiple bills aimed at tax relief for families and regulatory changes for small business lending. As Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee since early 2025 and former Ranking Member beginning in 2023, Scott has emphasized reversing longstanding federal housing policies through new legislative initiatives. His introduction of the Protecting Access to Credit for Small Businesses Act reflects ongoing debates about the effectiveness of federal agencies like the SBA versus community-based financial institutions in supporting small businesses.
