South Carolina Gamecocks women’s equestrian team competed against Texas A&M, ranked fifth nationally, in College Station on Friday. The Gamecocks were defeated 13-6 but saw individual success with three riders earning Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) honors.
The meet began with the Flat event, where Texas A&M narrowly won 3-2. Natalie Jayne secured the first point for South Carolina by defeating Londyn Samlaska 85-79 on Envy. Sarah Rabb contributed with an 87.5 on Celsius, besting Grace Shipman’s 83.5 and achieving her second MOP award of the season.
In Horsemanship, Alexis Potts earned South Carolina’s only point with a score of 76.75-76.50, keeping her undefeated record this season at 7-0-2 and receiving her second MOP honor.
The Fences portion ended in a tie at two points each. Jayne added another point for the Gamecocks on Max, edging out Alexa Leong by one point (82.5-81.5). Amira Kettenah tied with Aggie Alida Treuting at 85.5 on Cybermax. Grace Rabb closed out the event with an 18.5-point win on Cheeta (87.5-69), marking her second MOP of the season and matching her twin sister Sarah for the highest Jumping Seat score of the day.
Texas A&M won Reining 4-1, but freshman Emily Patton scored South Carolina’s only point in that event (69.5-69), which was also her first career point as a Gamecock.
South Carolina will conclude their Texas road trip facing No. 6 SMU on Saturday, January 31 at 1:00 p.m., with updates available through their social media channels.
