Richard Seymour was born in Gadsden on October 6, 1979. He played high school football in the city at Gadsden City High. He went on to play for the University of Georgia. He was drafted sixth overall by the New England Patriots in 2001. Seymour played in the NFL for 12 seasons. He was a defensive lineman. He won three Super Bowl titles with New England. He later played for the Oakland Raiders. He was selected to seven Pro Bowls. In 2022, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
