U.S. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin, who serves as the Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, met with John Eisenberg, President Trump's nominee for Assistant Attorney General for the National Security Division. Following their meeting, Durbin released a statement emphasizing the importance of the Justice Department prioritizing the Constitution over presidential directives.

Durbin stated, "As I’ve said to all of President Trump’s DOJ nominees, the American people are demanding a Justice Department that puts the Constitution before any president. The top law enforcement officers at DOJ must be able to say ‘no’ to any unlawful directives, especially when considering matters of national security."

He also expressed his anticipation for further discussions with Eisenberg during his upcoming hearing.
