U.S. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin has expressed concern following reports that the Trump Administration has removed several officials from the Justice Department and FBI. These individuals were involved in the prosecution of former President Donald Trump and those charged with offenses related to the January 6 Capitol riot.

Durbin, who is also the Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, issued a statement criticizing these actions. He described them as "a major blow to the FBI and Justice Department’s integrity and effectiveness." Durbin further stated, "This is a brazen assault on the rule of law that also severely undermines our national security and public safety."

The Senator accused unelected officials within Trump's circle of executing "widespread political retribution" against career law enforcement professionals. He added, "President Trump would rather have the FBI and DOJ full of blind admirers and loyalists than experienced law enforcement officers."

Durbin's comments reflect ongoing tensions surrounding investigations into events during Trump's presidency and their aftermath.
