Every Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, led by Ranking Member U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina), has urged Chairman U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-Illinois) to conduct a hearing focusing on the civil rights violations of Jewish students and the spread of terrorist ideology on college campuses.

In a letter addressed to Senator Durbin, the Senate Judiciary Committee Republicans expressed deep concern over the escalating threats faced by Jewish university students in the wake of recent events. They highlighted the alarming trend of anti-Israel activists targeting, harassing, intimidating, and even assaulting Jewish students solely based on their heritage and religion. The Republicans emphasized that such actions are not only fundamentally un-American but also constitute federal crimes.

The Senators referenced specific incidents at prominent universities, including Princeton University and Stanford University, where symbols and expressions associated with terrorist organizations like Hezbollah and Hamas were observed. They raised questions about the funding sources and agendas of these activists, warning of the radicalization and indoctrination taking place on campuses across the country.

According to the Republicans, there are university-sanctioned centers, curricula, and events that promote anti-Semitic and radical terrorist-aligned beliefs, posing a threat to both the civil rights of students and national security. They underscored the urgent need for the Committee to address these pressing issues and ensure the protection of innocent students while examining the dangers posed by the proliferation of radical Islamist ideology in academic settings.

The letter calling for the hearing was also signed by U.S. Senators Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Mike Lee (R-Utah), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Josh Hawley (R-Missouri), Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas), John Kennedy (R-Louisiana), Thom Tillis (R-North Carolina), and Marsha Blackburn (R-Tennessee).

The Senate Judiciary Committee Republicans have made a strong appeal for immediate action to safeguard the civil rights of students and combat the spread of terrorist ideology on college campuses, emphasizing the gravity of the situation and the need for proactive measures to address these critical issues.
