177 coaches at institutions in Richland County earned $67,389 on average in 2022

Richland County’s 177 coaches earned an average salary of $67,389 in 2022, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

This is the seventh highest average salary per county earned by coaches at South Carolina post-secondary schools during 2022.

Richland County is home to five post-secondary schools that paid coaches during 2022. Among them, University of South Carolina-Columbia stood out with the highest average coaching salary of $350,986.

Male coaches of men's teams received $142,509 on average in Richland County, while female coaches in charge of women's teams earned an average of $116,006.

Research from the Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management found NCAA coaches are compensated like CEOs, with top coaches earning more than $1.5 million annually.
