U.S. Senators Tim Scott and Mike Lee have introduced the Accelerating Children's Education (ACE) Act to expand educational choices for American families. The legislation aims to enhance federal tax incentives for the enactment of state-level school choice laws, while also addressing concerns about ideological influences in public education and economic barriers to alternative schooling options.
Senator Tim Scott, a longtime advocate for educational freedom, emphasized the importance of giving parents a choice in their children's education. He stated, "I've always championed educational freedom because of one simple truth - when parents have a choice, kids have a chance." He further added, "I'm proud to continue fighting to ensure every child - no matter their zip code - has access to a school that best fits their needs and provides them the opportunity to live out their version of the American dream."
Senator Mike Lee echoed Scott's sentiments, emphasizing the fundamental right of parents to choose the educational path that is most suitable for their children. He said, "The ACE Act ensures that our tax system reflects this principle and provides real support to those seeking alternatives to public schooling."
The ACE Act has garnered support from Representative Eric Burlison, who introduced companion legislation in the House of Representatives. Burlison highlighted the positive impact of school choice in Southwest Missouri, stating, "Through 529 education saving accounts, families are freed from the arbitrary link between where they live and which school their child can attend. School choice makes institutions of education more accountable and responsive to families. This leads to higher graduation rates and increases parental satisfaction and involvement while saving taxpayer dollars."
Key provisions of the ACE Act include measures to incentivize states to adopt school choice laws. States without qualifying school choice laws will see the tax-exempt status of municipal bonds for local projects, such as new school construction, revoked. On the other hand, states that embrace school choice will benefit from a 50% tax exemption on bond interest income. States fully embracing school choice will enjoy a complete tax exemption.
The ACE Act aims to empower parents with the freedom to choose the educational path that best suits their children. By providing tax incentives and addressing concerns about ideological influences in public education, this legislation seeks to ensure that every child has access to a quality education, regardless of their zip code.
