Mayor Knox White is the recipient of the Urban League of the Upstate's Whitney M. Young, Jr. Humanitarian of the Year Award for “inspirational leadership” in the community.
“Everyone who has worked with Knox White knows that he has unwavering perseverance and a laser focus on issues that will positively impact all of our citizens,” said City Council Member and Urban League Board Member John DeWorken while presenting the award.
The Urban League of the Upstate’s mission is to advance equity by empowering the Black community and underserved individuals throughout the region.
A native of Greenville, Mayor White has served on City Council since 1983 and as mayor since 1995. His tenure has been defined by neighborhood revitalization, economic development and transformational projects for downtown.
