The Columbia-Richland 911 Communications Center is now hiring for new positions within the department including call takers, 2nd shift call takers, telecommunicator dispatchers, and 2nd shift telecommunicator dispatchers.
The Columbia-Richland 911 Communications Center is a vital part of the public safety and response team, as they are the first point of contact when citizens call 9-1-1 for emergencies.

The call takers answer all of the incoming calls from the public. They are assigned to determine the nature of the call and effectively provide lifesaving and pre-arrival instructions to the caller while emergency services are en route.

The telecommunicator dispatchers dispatch the appropriate agency (police, fire, and/or emergency medical services) to the incident location. They constantly maintain awareness of available response units in order to dispatch calls appropriately and efficiently.

All positions require a high school diploma or GED, type 30 correct words per minute, and have a valid South Carolina (Class D) driver’s license. Telecommunicator dispatchers also have to have six (6) months of relevant prior experience.

Within Columbia-Richland 911 Communications, there are many opportunities for advancement with progressively higher pay including shift supervisor, shift manager, and administration.
