Councilwoman to Discuss Rezoning Requests at Town Hall

Map amendment requests for three Northeast Richland properties are the focus of an upcoming in-person town hall meeting organized by County Councilwoman Gretchen Barron.

Barron, who represents District 7, will team up with planning staff and developers to advise residents about rezoning requests for the properties at the meeting, set for 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17 at Killian Park, 1424 Marthan Road, Blythewood. Residents in nearby communities are encouraged to attend.

“The purpose of the session is to give residents an opportunity to drop in, personally hear from the developers and ask any questions,” Barron said.

Rezoning requests up for discussion include:

  • Wilson Boulevard – Near I-77, the request asks Richland County to rezone 55.2 acres from commercial/industrial to mixed use to allow for both single-family and multi-family residential use.
  • 9200 Wilson Blvd. – Developers are asking to rezone 8.63 acres from rural to neighborhood commercial to accommodate commercial and service use for people who live and work nearby.
  • Archie Drive – The request involves rezoning 3.12 acres from residential single-family medium density (RS-MD) to residential, multi-family medium density (RS-MD), which would permit multi-family housing.
In order for Richland County Council to enact a rezoning request, an ordinance amending the official zoning map must pass three readings by majority vote.
