Greater Lexington Chamber & Visitors Center issued the following announcement on January 20.
Thornton Kirby is a healthcare attorney and hospital executive who is now in his 18th year as President & CEO of the South Carolina Hospital Association.
SCHA’s mission is to advocate for good health policy and to improve the quality and safety of healthcare in South Carolina. Since March of last year, Thornton and his colleagues at SCHA have worked tirelessly to help hospitals respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. From personal protective equipment, to testing, to vaccination, hospitals have overcome numerous challenges to achieve their missions of improving health of all South Carolinians.
Thornton attended the University of Virginia, where he studied American Government. He studied law at the University of South Carolina and began his professional career as a healthcare attorney with the Nexsen Pruet law firm. After advising hospitals for several years, Thornton served as a hospital executive and later as a senior executive for Clemson University.
