Kershaw County, SC –Kershaw County Government urges residents and business owners to take precaution and prepare for possible inclement winter weather beginning Saturday night and into Sunday morning.
Kershaw County Government continues to monitor the weather conditions closely with daily meetings with The National Weather Service and South Carolina Emergency Management Division. Based on The National Weather Service’s 4:00PM briefing today, Kershaw County has the potential to receive .25” to .50” of ice.
In preparation for potential wintry mix, Kershaw County has met with public safety, SCDOT, Food for the Soul, MUSC, and other local agencies to discuss and review winter weather plans as well as make sure all County public safety vehicles, equipment, and personnel are equipped and prepared for the weekend’s storm.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR A WINTER STORM?
- Always check your emergency supply kit and restock any supplies that may have been used during another natural disaster,
- Monitor local news and weather stations to keep updated on weather conditions
- Fully charge all mobile devices to use in case of a power outage
- Provide options for outdoor pets and domestic animals to stay warm and have access to food and water
- Prepare for alternative heating sources like a fireplace or generator
- Review The South Carolina Emergency Management Severe Winter Weather Guide, and
- Make sure you have written down your utility provider’s contact information to report a power outage.

In the event of a power outage, do NOT call 911 to report the outage. 911 should only be called in the event of an emergency. If you lose power, contact your utility provider and report the outage.
