Richland County Councilwoman Gretchen Barron is organizing a town hall meeting to discuss the possible rezoning for Killian Road in the city of Columbia.

The changing of the road's zoning would require a map amendment request, for which the city is asking for resident input.

According to the Richland County website, "The request seeks to rezone the 32-acre parcel in the 100 block of Killian Road from a rural district (RU) to a general commercial district (GC). Barron, who represents District 7, will team up with planning staff to advise residents and answer questions about the rezoning request."

Residents of the community and nearby communities are encouraged to attend the town hall to make their opinions known. The in-person meeting is set for 6 to 7pm  on Thursday, Jan. 6, at the Parklane Adult Activity Center, which is located at 7494 Parklane Road in Columbia. To attend, residents must wear face coverings and should be aware that social-distancing measures will be observed and enforced.

According to the Richland County website, "Gretchen Barron represents District 7, which includes Blythewood, Killian and various sections of North Columbia. Barron has been engaged in educational program implementation and management for nearly 20 years. Barron owns and operates Purposed Vision Consulting, LLC. Its primary function is to assist new and existing organizations to successfully navigate in developing a foundation that will align with its program and financial needs. In 2005, she established Barron Academy, which provides after-school programs, summer camps and one-on-one tutoring primarily to high-poverty, low-performing schools in South Carolina."
