Gamecocks' Harris, Hinz, Gareis named to United Soccer Coaches All-Region Team

The South Carolina women's soccer team placed three players on the United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region Team.  

Midfielder Jyllissa Harris was named to the first team, while forward Ryan Gareis and goalkeeper Heather Hinz were named to the third team. It marks the seventh straight year that the Gamecocks had three players land on the team, according to gamecocksonline.com.

It is the second All-Region recognition for Harris, who last season was named to the second team, along with being named to the All-SEC First Team for the second time in her collegiate career.   

Harris was third on the team with four goals and three assists, and started every game on the backline for the Gamecocks. She played every minute in 19 of 22 matches.

Garies, a graduate student, was second on team with nine assists. She was third on the team in scoring with four goals and was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week for her outstanding play against Auburn.

Hinz, a junior, played in 22 matches in goal for the Gamecocks, logging 1,981 minutes between the pipes. Her 1.045 GAA ranked third in the conference.

During the season, Hinz had seven shutouts and finished with a .744 save percentage, along with being the only goalie in the NCAA Tournament to finish with three shutouts through the first three rounds.

The Gamecocks finished the season 14-7-1 and advanced to the Elite Eight of Division 1 NCAA Tournament for the fifth time in eight seasons.
