Richland County: Councilwoman Barron to Host Holiday Vaccine Drive

Gretc

Richland County issued the following announcement on November 23.

County Councilwoman Gretchen Barron will help deliver families an early Christmas via a holiday-themed vaccination drive Sunday, Dec. 5.

Barron is hosting the District 7 Holiday Festival/Holiday Vaccine Drive so adults and children can celebrate the season while also getting the COVID-19 vaccine. Richland County will provide $100 gift cards to County residents who get their first dose of the vaccine.

Christmas activities will also be featured at the event, set for 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Killian Park, 1424 Marthan Road, Blythewood. There will be stations for making stockings and ornaments, and children can meet and take photos with Santa Claus. The County’s Recreation Commission will provide book bags to the first 100 kids.

The Medical University of South Carolina will administer the vaccine to people ages 5 and older who need their first or second dose. Those eligible for a booster shot or third dose can also receive one, per S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control guidelines. Attendees can take part in activities without getting the vaccine at the event.

While registration is not required, residents are encouraged to sign up online via Eventbrite at www.eventbrite.com/e/211367835887 to help with planning.
