The University of South Carolina has confirmed plans to freeze its tuition mandates for the 2022-23 academic year.
“The global pandemic has led to prolonged budget uncertainty for many South Carolina families,” Interim President Harris Pastides said. “I hope that we can give some comfort to both current and future students that we recognize these challenges and that our institution is committed to offering affordable degree programs.”
The institution made the announcement Nov. 19, highlighting that this year serves as the fourth consecutive year that the state’s flagship has held tuition at the same rate, a related news release explained.
The rates will remain at $6,344 per semester for in-state resident students and $16,964 for non-resident students, with discount opportunities offered by merit-based scholarships. About half of USC students graduate with zero debt compared to about 30% nationally, the release added.
According Pastides, tuition costs for the next academic year will be finalized in fall 2022 as opposed to June to alleviate the financial pressure placed on students.
