University of South Carolina sophomore punter Kai Kroeger earned SEC Special Teams Player of the Week honors after the Gamecocks' 21-20 win over Vanderbilt last weekend.
“The 6-foot-4, 195-pound Kroeger, who hails from Lake Forest, Ill., enjoyed his best game of his career in the defeat of the Commodores at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia,” a team press release said.
Kroeger launched four punts – of 54, 70, 53 and 50 yards – for a total of 227 yards on the day, or a 56.8-yard average.
Three of those punts landed inside the 20, with his 70-yard boot being a career best and the longest for a Gamecock since Joseph Charlton nailed a 73-yard punt in 2017.
Kroeger is the third South Carolina football player to take home conference honors this season, joining Co-SEC Freshman of the Week Debo Williams and Parker White, the Gamecocks’ previous SEC Special Teams Player of the Week award winner.
South Carolina next heads to College Station, Texas, where the Gamecocks (4-3, 1-3 SEC) face the red-hot, 17th-ranked Texas A&M Aggies (5-2, 2-2) Saturday night.
