University of South Carolina's quarterback Luke Doty is out for the rest of the season after aggravating a foot injury that already forced him to miss the season's first two games.

The State reported that Graduate senior Zeb Noland will be stepping in to take Doty's place as the Gamecocks' first string quarterback for the rest of the season.

“I hate it for him and I hate it for our football team,” University of South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer said of Doty, according to The State. “He’s going to have surgery this week. It’s the best thing for him short term and long term, is to get this thing healed up and get him back.”

Noland came to South Carolina over the summer as a graduate assistant and was added to the roster to bolster depth at quarterback following Doty’s initial injury.

In two-plus games this season, Noland has completed 32 of 55 passes for 482 yards and six touchdowns to just one interception.

Beamer has said that going forward, FCS transfer Jason Brown will be the No. 2 quarterback, Dakereon Joyner will retain his position as receiver and that he's also impressed with freshman Colten Gauthier.

“He’s a competitor,” Beamer said of Gauthier, according to The State. “Him and some of those guys (on scout team) going against our defense, they try and destroy our defense every day over there. Colten’s showing great leadership over there and really taking advantage of his reps mentally and physically.”

The Gamecocks (4-3 overall, 1-3 SEC) next travel to face Texas A&M (5-2, 2-2), which is ranked in the top 25, for a Saturday night game.
