The chairman for Allen University has been nominated for a Democratic National Committee at-large member position.
Rev. Dr. Samuel L. Green Sr. was given the nomination honor by Chairman of the DNC, Jaime Harrison, according to a university press release.
Green also has the backing of President Joe Biden.
Green said he was honored to be recognized by the party and was looking forward to giving a voice to undeserved communities.
"I am honored to receive this nomination and look forward to working with President Biden, Chairman Harrison, and the DNC to ensure we continue to redeem the soul of this nation,” he said in the university release. “As a faith leader, I look forward to working with the Democratic Party to shape an agenda that prioritizes the voices of marginalized communities. As we approach the 2022 and 2024 elections, it is imperative that we work collaboratively to protect our democracy by expanding civic participation."
Green is the presiding bishop of the Seventh Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church, and was elected and consecrated the 125th Bishop in the line of succession in the history of AME Church, going back to Bishop Richard Allen, according to the university release.
Green is father of three adult sons and has a B.A. in Religious Studies from the University of South Florida - Tampa, a M.A. of Divinity from the Turner Theological Seminary in Atlanta, and a Ph.D. of Ministry from Columbia Theological Seminary in Atlanta.
