Richland County: Event to Highlight Community Resources, Neighborhood Leadership

600s

Richland County issued the following announcement on October 1.

An upcoming expo will offer residents a unique opportunity to get directly involved in their community, particularly those who are interested in becoming neighborhood leaders.

Richland Exhibition: Revealing Community Resources, set for Saturday, Oct. 30, will promote neighborhood independence by supporting local businesses, highlighting non-government services and teaching neighborhood-led leadership. The drop-in event will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Columbia Place Mall parking lot at 7201 Two Notch Road, Columbia.

“This expo will serve as the perfect opportunity for Richland County residents who want to get involved in their community,” said County Councilman Overture Walker, District 8. “They’ll have the chance to learn directly from those who are already making our County a great place to live.”

The event will feature enrichment resources, teachings and demonstrations from local businesses, nonprofits, for-profits and other organizations, including:

  • STEM demonstrations with coding
  • Information on upcoming grants for small businesses
  • Resources for organizing a community cleanup
Food from local restaurants will be available, and kids dressed in costume for Halloween will receive candy.

Those interested in attending are encouraged to sign up at https://richland-exhibition.eventbrite.com.

The County’s Neighborhood Improvement Program is organizing the expo, which is part of National Community Planning Month. Established in 2006, National Community Planning Month recognizes the role of planning in creating great communities.

Masks are required to attend, and physical distancing will be observed. In the event of inclement weather, the expo will be a drive-thru event.
