Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin added his name to those calling on Congress to pass the Build Back Better infrastructure bill.
“As U.S. cities continue to confront serious housing & homelessness challenges, I joined @RepMaxineWaters (D-CA, 43rd District) & @USMayors President Mayor @NanWhaley (Dayton) & Mayor @EricGarcetti3 (Los Angeles) to call on Congress to pass #BuildBackBetter infrastructure bill,” Benjamin tweeted Sept. 29.
Benjamin took part in a virtual press call on Sept. 29 hosted by the U.S. Conference of Mayors to discuss housing provisions that are included in President Joe Biden’s $7 trillion Build Back Better Plan.
Waters authored the provisions and also took part in the press call to explain the importance of prioritizing resources during the upcoming negotiations on a final bill.
During the press call attended by Benjamin, Waters, Whaley, and Garcetti, Benjamin, called this a crucial point in American history.
“Mayors are ready to fight,” he said, according to WIST.com. “We are alongside you for better housing policy and we must focus on what’s real for real people in our cities every single day.”
