Premium Peanut, an innovative, grower-owned peanut shelling company, recently announced that they will develop a manufacturing facility in Orangeburg County, according to press release from Gov. Henry McMaster's office.
The company will invest $64.3 million and create 130 new jobs in the county.
Premium Peanut CEO Karl Zimmer said that they were looking forward to being a part of the South Carolina economy.
“Premium Peanut is proud of the value we have been able to create for over 400 grower-owners, in addition to providing quality products to customers around the world,” Zimmer said. “We are thrilled to expand our operations and establish our footprint in South Carolina.”
Premium Peanut was established in 2014 and shells about 10% of the U.S. peanut crop.
The company collaborates with principle snack, candy and peanut butter manufacturers in the country, along with customers in over 30 countries around the world.
McMaster said the state would half facilitate the company’s footprint in South Carolina.
“Today’s announcement by Premium Peanut is a huge win for our state’s agribusiness sector,” he said. “We congratulate this great company on their investment that will create 130 new jobs for our citizens, and we look forward to supporting them every step of the way.”
The new facility is expected to open in 2022.
