Richland County issued the following announcement on August 25.
An upcoming in-person, drop-in meeting will give District 2 residents the opportunity to discuss recently updated land development rules with County staff and ask questions.
While content will be similar to other recent sessions focused on the County’s revamped Land Development Code (LDC), this meeting, set for 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, will have a particular emphasis on District 2.
Councilman Derrek Pugh, who represents the district, will host the meeting at the Palmetto Citizens Amphitheater, 100 Alvina Hagood Circle, Blythewood. Residents can attend this informal, drop-in meeting at their convenience.
The LDC is a set of regulations governing land use and development in unincorporated Richland County. The code covers standards for zoning districts and dwelling units allowed per acre, along with building location, permitted uses, signage, landscaping and other rules. In 2017, the County began updating the LDC as part of a process to develop regulations that implement a vision for where and how the County grows in the 21st century.
A draft of the rewritten LDC is available for public review at weplantogether.org. Find out more by visiting Richland County’s website: www.richlandcountysc.gov, and navigating to the Planning Department page.
A separate drop-in event featuring information on the LDC will be at 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, Crane Creek Gymnasium, 7405 Fairfield Road, Columbia. For more about this meeting and other upcoming events, visit the County’s Events page: www.richlandcountysc.gov/Home/Events.
