Columbia-based Cason Development Group has assumed ownership of a building in the center of the city's historic Five Points neighborhood, furthering the wave of new investment in the area.
The developer bought the property that sits at the northwest corner of Harden and Devine streets earlier this month, The Post and Courier reported.
Current occupants of the building include a Men’s Wearhouse clothing store, Sushi Yoshi restaurant, and the venerable Carolina Barber Shop.
For CDG President Frank Cason, not only is it another bright spot for the company’s portfolio, but it is seemingly a return to humble roots.
“We are very excited about the opportunity to transform this iconic corner of Five Points and set a new long-term trajectory for this asset and the rest of Five Points,” Cason said in a statement obtained by The Post and Courier. “I grew up going to Sharpe’s Formal Wear (now Men’s Wearhouse) and my grandfather began taking me to the Carolina Barber Shop when I was a kid.”
The company said while no immediate changes are in the works, the property teems of new possibilities.
It joins the former Pecknel Music Company store at 732 Saluda Ave. to form Cason’s presence in the area.
Across the street from Cason’s latest acquisition, the former Yesterdays site is undergoing an effort to turn it back into its 1950s incarnation with the likelihood of it hosting a restaurant and other businesses.
