Lila Anna Sauls, president of the nonprofit organization Homeless No More, was recently awarded the Jefferson Award.
The award was founded in 1972 by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Robert Taft, Jr. and Samuel Beard of The Jefferson Award Foundation, with the recognition awarded at both the local and national level.
Local winners are the pillars of our community who go above and beyond to serve their community. Homeless No More is devoted to solving family homelessness.
Along with her role at Homeless No More, Sauls is an adjunct faculty member at Columbia College, where she serves on the graduate studies advisory committee.
Sauls tweeted that she was taken back by being selected for the award.
“So, I’ve been known to (snarkily) point out that people like me don’t win awards or make lists. (Right, @ChrisTrainorSC?),” Sauls tweeted. "This happened today. And I literally started crying when I explained it’s not me…it’s the incredible team I lead. Bc no one does anything alone."
Sauls had been recognized by local prestigious organizations, along with The Jefferson Award Foundation.
Jefferson Award winners receive a medallion of gold, silver, or bronze. Gold medallions are awarded to national recipients, while silver and bronze medallions are given at the local level.
