Greenville County ranked seventh in state for resident earnings in 2017

Greenville County ranked seventh among counties in South Carolina by annual earnings per resident, according to data obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau in August.

The median income of Greenville County residents was an inflation-adjusted $27,373 per year. Greenville County had 185,837 households in 2017, with a population of 490,332.

The county with the highest median resident income in the state was Charleston County. Charleston County's median income was $30,777 per year after adjusting for inflation – $3,404 more than Greenville County. It had 154,049 households in 2017 and a population of 387,847.

Allendale County had the lowest annual resident income among counties in South Carolina, with a median income of only $17,418 per year. That was $9,955 less than the median income in Greenville County at the time. Allendale County had 3,285 households in 2017 and a population of 9,402.
