The South Carolina women’s tennis team secured a 4-1 victory over Georgia Tech on Saturday at the Carolina Indoor Tennis Center. With this result, South Carolina improved its season record to 4-1.
The doubles matches began with Lauren Friedman and Helena Buchwald, ranked No. 37, winning 6-2 on court one. Kaitlyn Carnicella and Jane Dunyon followed with a 7-5 win in their first match as a pair, while Georgia Tech took court three with a narrow 6-4 victory over Sara Borkop and Jana Stojanova. South Carolina claimed the doubles point by winning two of the three matches.
In singles play, No. 80 Kaitlyn Carnicella defeated No. 47 Alejandra Cruz with a decisive 6-1, 6-1 result on court one. Jane Dunyon extended the lead for South Carolina by defeating Seroi Nayuki in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5, on court five. Taylor Goetz clinched the overall win for South Carolina after coming from behind to beat Olivia Carneiro in three sets: 2-6, 6-2, 6-3.
The only singles win for Georgia Tech came from Taly Licht, who overcame Helena Buchwald in three sets: 5-7, 7-6(3), 6-2.
South Carolina will look to build on this performance as the season continues.
