The South Carolina women’s tennis team, ranked 23rd nationally, will host a double-header on Saturday at the Carolina Outdoor Tennis Center. The Gamecocks will face Charlotte and SC State, with the latter two teams playing each other in a neutral-site match later in the day.

South Carolina’s recent rise to No. 23 in the ITA Team Top-25 Poll follows their upset win over No. 21 Clemson. Four members of the Gamecocks are featured in this season’s initial ITA rankings: Kaitlyn Carnciella is ranked 80th in singles, while Lauren Friedman and Helena Buchwald are ranked 37th as a doubles team, and Friedman and Sara Borkop hold the 78th spot.

Reflecting on their previous match, South Carolina overcame an early deficit to defeat Clemson 4-3. After dropping four first sets in singles play, the Gamecocks rallied to win key matches. Helena Buchwald recovered from a first-set loss to secure her point, while Kaitlyn Carnicella came back after losing her opening set as well. Jane Dunyon clinched another crucial victory after splitting her first two sets. Taylor Goetz sealed the team’s win by overcoming Clemson’s No. 124-ranked player in three sets.

Charlotte enters Saturday’s matchup with a 5-2 record, including a recent win against Furman and losses to higher-ranked UNC and Clemson teams. Ni Xi is Charlotte’s only player in the ITA rankings at No. 76 for singles.

SC State has played just one match this season, falling to Charlotte. Last year, they finished with a strong record and secured their conference title for the nineteenth time.

Historically, South Carolina leads both series—6-0 against Charlotte and 4-0 versus SC State—with all previous meetings taking place in Columbia.

Live scoring will be available through StatBroadcast and matches can be streamed on Track Tennis. Updates will also be provided via X at @GamecockWTennis.
