The No. 22 South Carolina women’s golf team finished fifth at the 2026 Old Barnwell Derby Match Play, securing two victories over top-20 opponents, according to a March 17 announcement.
The event saw South Carolina defeat No. 17 Ole Miss with a score of 4.5-0.5 and No. 18 Florida State by 3-2 in the third edition of the annual tournament. The first two matches for each team were played on Sunday after inclement weather led to the cancellation of Monday’s play.
Junior Maylis Lamoure had an undefeated week, winning all three of her matches and trailing for only nine holes throughout the competition. Sophomore Eila Galitsky also performed strongly, finishing with a record of two wins and one loss, including a decisive victory over Ole Miss’ Kajsalotta Svarvar. Senior Mia Sandtorv Lussand contributed with a dominant win against Florida State, while Lamoure and junior Vai Heck secured narrow victories that helped push South Carolina past Florida State.
Freshman Molly McLean achieved her first career match play victory for South Carolina by making four birdies in her match against Ole Miss’ Mary Miller, clinching the overall team win.
In their opening match on Sunday, the Gamecocks narrowly lost to No. 8 Wake Forest by a score of 3-2, with Heck falling in extra holes as Wake Forest’s Morgan Ketchum made birdie at the par-3 17th hole. Lamoure and Galitsky both earned individual wins in that contest.
No. 5 Auburn won the championship match against No. 11 Duke with a score of 3-2, marking its fifth win of the season.
