South Carolina Track & Field athletes set two new program records during the Duke Twilight meet in Durham, North Carolina, on May 3. The event marked the end of the regular season for the team’s distance group.
The results are significant as they show improvement in individual performances ahead of postseason competition. Salma Elbadra broke her own program record in the women’s 800 meters, finishing first with a time of 2:00.55—improving her previous mark by .07 seconds. Elbadra now ranks seventh overall nationally heading into postseason events.
Elijah Poore also surpassed his previous best by setting a new school record in the men’s 3000 meter steeplechase, running 8:52.71 to place seventh overall in that race. Other notable performances included Kaleb Burroughs achieving third place on South Carolina’s all-time leaderboard for the men’s 1500 meters with a personal best of 3:42.28.
In women’s distance events, Abigail White improved her standing to fourth all-time for South Carolina after running a personal best of 4:19.45 in the women’s 1500 meters, while Eline Mast maintained fifth position with a season-best time of 4:23.18.
With these results concluding their regular season schedule, South Carolina Track & Field will next compete at the SEC Outdoor Championship from May 14-16 in Auburn, Alabama.
