The South Carolina softball team lost 2-1 to No. 11 Texas A&M on Apr. 25 in the second game of their series.
The close result came after a strong pitching performance by Emma Friedel, who threw a complete game and matched her season-high with nine strikeouts while allowing six hits. Despite Friedel’s efforts, South Carolina was unable to overcome Texas A&M’s two runs.
Texas A&M scored first in the third inning with a bases loaded hit by pitch and added another run in the fourth on a solo home run. Tori Ensley responded for South Carolina with her own solo home run down the left field line during the bottom of the fourth inning, marking her team-leading eleventh home run this season.
In each of the final three innings, South Carolina managed to get the tying run on base but could not advance it into scoring position. This marks the first time this season that South Carolina has held Texas A&M to two or fewer runs in back-to-back games.
The deciding game of the series is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m.
