South Carolina’s softball team secured a comeback victory over No. 11 Texas A&M on April 26, winning the series with a final score of 2-1.
The game was closely contested, with South Carolina pitcher Jori Heard allowing only one run in more than five innings and striking out five batters. The Aggies initially took the lead in the second inning after two singles and a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch, but Heard limited them to just two hits for the remainder of her outing.
Tori Ensley tied the game for South Carolina in the fourth inning by hitting her twelfth home run of the season, extending both her team lead and personal single-season record. In the bottom of the seventh inning, consecutive walks set up Karley Shelton’s sacrifice bunt attempt. The throw from Texas A&M pitcher Grace Sparks struck Shelton as she ran to first base, causing an error that allowed Quincee Lilio to score the winning run.
Emma Friedel earned her ninth win of the season by pitching one and two-thirds innings without giving up any hits or more than one base runner. Over this series, South Carolina held Texas A&M to four runs—the fewest runs scored by Texas A&M in a Southeastern Conference series since April 2023 when South Carolina limited them to two runs during a sweep.
South Carolina will return home for its final game of the season on April 28 against South Carolina State at 6 p.m., with free admission offered for fans.
