South Carolina’s track and field teams have completed their preparations for the 2026 SEC Indoor Championship, which will take place in College Station, Texas. The event is set to begin on Thursday and will feature some of the top collegiate programs in the country.
The championship meet includes nine women’s teams ranked in the USTFCCCA Top 25 and 12 men’s teams with national rankings. Last year, Arkansas claimed the women’s title while Texas A&M won the men’s championship. This season, Georgia enters as the highest-ranked SEC women’s team, while Arkansas leads on the men’s side nationally.
The Gamecocks’ men are currently ranked 14th nationally and sixth among SEC schools for event squad rankings. The women hold fifth place among SEC teams and have seven event groups inside the national Top 20. Both South Carolina squads are among only four SEC programs with both genders ranked within the Top 15.
Head Coach Tim Hall has guided the men’s team to consecutive Top 10 finishes at this meet during his first two years. “The men’s team has finished inside the Top 10 at the SEC Indoor Championship in each of Head Coach Tim Hall’s first two years and is looking to make it three in a row,” according to a statement from South Carolina Track & Field.
The scoring format awards points to the top eight finishers in each event (10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1), with All-SEC honors going to those who finish in the top three.
This weekend also marks athletes’ final chance to qualify for next month’s NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas. To advance, individuals must be among the nation’s top 16 performers in their events; relay teams must rank within the top 12.
On the women’s side, South Carolina currently holds 12 qualifying marks for NCAA competition. JaMeesia Ford (200m), Zaya Akins (400m), and Salma Elbadra (3K) are each ranked third nationally in their respective events. The women’s 4×400 meter relay team also ranks third overall.
Other qualifiers include Alexis Brown (60m), Elbadra (Mile), Joslyn Hamilton (60m hurdles), Akala Garrett (60m hurdles), Kyndall Harrington-Spain (60m hurdles), DMR squad, Jathiyah Muhammad (pole vault), and Tristen Harris (long jump).
For South Carolina’s men, six qualifying standards have been met so far. The men’s 4×400 meter relay team recorded a time of 3:00.86—the second fastest ever by a collegiate squad—and Tyson Williams stands fourth nationally in the men’s 200 meters. Additional qualifiers include Andrew Salvodon and Josiah Wrice in the men’s 400 meters, Logan Montgomery in shot put, and Jaouad Khchina in the mile.
Competition begins Thursday with multi-events starting at noon Eastern Time; field events follow later that afternoon along with preliminary rounds on track.
