The South Carolina men’s tennis team, currently ranked No. 14 nationally, will host a series of three home matches at the Carolina Indoor Tennis Center. The team will play a doubleheader on Friday, February 6, facing Presbyterian at 10:00 a.m. and South Carolina State at 2:00 p.m., followed by a match against No. 20 Duke on Sunday, February 8 at 1:00 p.m. Admission to all matches is free.
South Carolina recently completed the ITA Kickoff Weekend with a win over No. 24 Michigan State after an earlier loss to Clemson. Several players achieved notable singles victories during that weekend. Sean Daryabiegi won both his matches against ranked opponents from Clemson and Michigan State. Lucas da Silva defeated Michigan State’s Matthew Forbes, while Atakan Karahan and Charlie Swaine also recorded wins over ranked players.
In doubles play, da Silva and Paul Babier Gazeu secured two victories as partners, including a win over Michigan State’s No. 14-ranked pair. Another pairing of Karahan and Cole Henceroth earned a win against the Spartans’ No. 76-ranked duo.
The Gamecocks began their season ranked No. 18 in the ITA Poll but moved up to No. 14 following an upset victory over then-No. 10 Columbia and have maintained that position in the latest rankings update this week.
Individually, da Silva now leads the team in singles ranking at No. 23 after moving up nearly sixty spots since his last ranking; Daryabeigi is ranked No. 36 and Gazeu is at No. 87 in singles rankings released this week by ITA Singles and Doubles Rankings (https://www.wearecollegetennis.com/2026/02/03/ita-division-i-mens-team-rankings-feb-3/). In doubles, Daryabeigi and Max Stenzer are ranked No. 34; Gazeu and da Silva are listed at No. 51; Daryabeigi and da Silva are also paired together at No. 68.
Presbyterian enters Friday’s match with two wins this season after sweeping Emmanuel and Queens but finished last year with five wins out of twenty matches before being eliminated in the Big South Championship semifinals.
South Carolina State concluded its previous season with fifteen wins out of eighteen matches, winning its fifth consecutive MEAC title before losing to NC State in the NCAA Men’s Tennis Championship first round.
Duke began its current campaign with four straight wins—including an upset over then-No.9 NC State—before suffering three consecutive losses to Illinois, Kentucky, and Texas A&M (https://goduke.com/news/2026/2/4/mens-tennis-duke-drops-in-latest-ita-team-rankings.aspx). Pedro Rodenas remains undefeated in singles for Duke this season; he holds a national ranking of No.90 while teammates Gerard Planelles Ripoll ranks No.78 and Cooper Williams stands at No.47 in singles rankings.
Historically, South Carolina leads Presbyterian in their all-time series record with twenty wins compared to ten losses; they have won nineteen straight matches against them—ten by sweep—and hold twelve consecutive victories over South Carolina State without defeat so far.
Duke leads its series against South Carolina with twenty-eight wins versus seventeen losses; Duke has claimed victory in their last two meetings held during the years of 2021 and 2022.
