South Carolina’s men’s 4×400 meter relay team has been named USTFCCCA National Athlete(s) of the Week after a record-setting performance at the Tiger Paw Invitational. The relay team, consisting of Josiah Wrice, Jasauna Dennis, Devan Crumpton, and Andrew Salvodon, achieved this recognition following their run on Saturday.
During the event, the Gamecocks’ relay team set a new program record with a time of 3:00.86. This result is also the second fastest in collegiate history for the 4×400 meter relay. The breakdown of their performance saw Wrice starting with a split of 45.42 seconds, followed by Dennis with 45.15 seconds. Crumpton maintained the lead with a 45.28-second leg before Salvodon finished with a split of 45.02 seconds.
Their finish was just .09 seconds short of the all-time collegiate record of 3:00.77, which was set by Southern California’s Zach Shinnick, Rai Benjamin, Ricky Morgan, and Michael Norman in 2018.
The South Carolina quartet currently holds the top spot in NCAA rankings for this season’s event. They are also among only a few Gamecock male athletes to receive M-F Athletic National Athlete of the Week honors during the indoor season; Jaouad Khchina received it earlier this season and Anthony Greenhow was honored in 2022.
The Gamecocks are scheduled to conclude their indoor regular season by hosting the USC Invite at Sheila & Morris Cregger Indoor Track on Saturday, February 21.
