South Carolina’s men’s basketball team will play No. 17 Arkansas on Wednesday night at Bud Walton Arena. The Gamecocks, with a record of 10-6 overall and 1-2 in the SEC, are coming off a narrow 75-70 home loss to Georgia. That game saw South Carolina lose a late lead after leading by as many as 12 points in the first half. Mike Sharavjamts scored a season-high 18 points, while Kobe Knox recorded his first career double-double.
The Gamecocks have performed well in true road games this season, including a recent win over LSU where Elijah Strong scored a career-high 30 points. Strong is averaging nearly 19 points per game in conference play and leads the team in field goal percentage during SEC games.
South Carolina currently ranks first in the SEC for free throw shooting at 78.7%, which is also sixth nationally. The team averages just under ten turnovers per game, placing them among the top teams both in the conference and nationally.
Arkansas enters the matchup with a home record of 10-0 and one of the highest-scoring offenses in college basketball, averaging nearly 90 points per game. The Razorbacks also rank highly for three-point shooting percentage and fastbreak scoring.
“Tip is set for 9 p.m. (ET) with Mike Morgan (pxp) and Jon Sundvold (analyst) on the call for the SEC Network broadcast.”
The Razorbacks are led by freshman guard Darius Acuff Jr., who is fourth in scoring within the SEC and leads Arkansas with almost 20 points per game. Acuff Jr. also tops both his team and conference in assists.
Former South Carolina player Nick Pringle has started most games for Arkansas this season, contributing efficient shooting numbers.
In terms of historical matchups, Arkansas leads the series against South Carolina but recent meetings have been competitive; South Carolina has won three out of four since January 2024.
Other notable statistics include South Carolina’s strong performance when shooting efficiently or reaching certain point totals under head coach Lamont Paris. For example, they are undefeated when making at least half their shots from behind the arc or recording at least twenty assists in a game during Paris’ tenure.
Following Wednesday’s contest, South Carolina will continue its road trip with an upcoming game against Auburn on Saturday.
