The South Carolina men’s golf team was eliminated by top-ranked Auburn in the quarterfinals of match play at the Southeastern Conference Championship, according to an April 25 announcement. The match took place at Sea Island Golf Club, where Auburn secured a 3.5-1.5 victory after extra holes.
The outcome was decided in dramatic fashion as sophomore Marek Fleming forced extra holes with a birdie on the eighteenth but ultimately lost when Auburn’s Logan Reilly made a birdie putt on the first playoff hole. Senior Zach Adams tied his match against Jackson Koivun, ranked as the No. 1 amateur in the world, but it was not enough for South Carolina to advance.
Auburn gained an early advantage when Brock Blais and Talan Harrison both lost their matches despite solid performances. Redshirt senior Frankie Harris provided a win for South Carolina with a strong showing that included four birdies and just one bogey.
South Carolina achieved program records this week under second-year head coach Rob Bradley, recording their lowest-ever 54-hole and single-round scores at Sea Island during stroke play. This marks only their fourth appearance in match play since its introduction to the championship format in 2017 and their first since 2021.
Bradley helped lead South Carolina back to last season’s NCAA Championship for the first time since 2019. The team’s NCAA Regional site will be revealed during a selection show broadcast on May 6.
