Redshirt senior Frankie Harris and freshman Talan Harrison of the South Carolina Gamecocks men’s golf team have received Southeastern Conference (SEC) weekly honors, according to an announcement from the conference office. Harris was named SEC Co-Golfer of the Week, sharing the distinction with Auburn’s Jackson Koivun. Harrison was recognized as SEC Co-Freshman of the Week alongside Jake Albert of Auburn and Hudson Lawson of LSU.
The awards come after both players helped lead South Carolina to a top-five finish at the Puerto Rico Classic held February 9-11. The tournament featured top-ranked collegiate teams, including No. 1 Virginia and No. 2 LSU.
Harris secured his second win of the season at the event by posting a career-best score of 200 (-16). He shot rounds of 67, 67, and 66 at Grand Reserve Golf Club, recording 16 birdies and two eagles over three rounds. In addition to tying for first in par-5 scoring average (4.17, -10) and tying for third in par-4 scoring average (3.80, -6), Harris defeated five top-25 players in head-to-head matchups according to Clippd rankings, including Virginia’s Ben James who is ranked first nationally.
This victory moved Harris up nearly 50 spots in the Clippd Player Rankings to No. 47 this week and advanced him four positions to No. 11 in the latest PGA TOURU Rankings.
Harris has now achieved five individual wins during his time with South Carolina since transferring from Auburn, matching three-time All-American Kyle Thompson for most individual wins in program history. This is also Harris’s fifth SEC Golfer of the Week honor during his three seasons as a Gamecock—another program record. He previously won this award on September 17 following his season-opening win at the Gopher Invitational earlier this academic year.
Harrison finished tied for 14th place at Puerto Rico Classic—his second career top-20 finish out of five events played so far this season—and posted a new personal best score of 207 (-9) with rounds of 68, 69, and 70. Like Harris, he made a team-high total of 16 birdies over three rounds and tied for second among all competitors in par-3 scoring average (2.75, -3). This marks Harrison’s first time earning SEC Freshman of the Week recognition.
The South Carolina men’s golf team is scheduled to compete again March 1–3 at the Southern Highlands Collegiate tournament in Las Vegas.
