Redshirt senior Frankie Harris and freshman Talan Harrison of the South Carolina Gamecocks men’s golf team have been recognized by the Southeastern Conference for their performances at the Puerto Rico Classic. The SEC named Harris as Co-Golfer of the Week, sharing the honor with Jackson Koivun from Auburn. Harrison was named Co-Freshman of the Week alongside Jake Albert of Auburn and Hudson Lawson of LSU.
Harris led his team to a top-five finish in a tournament that included top-ranked Virginia and second-ranked LSU. He secured his second win of the season by shooting a career-best 200 (-16) over three rounds, recording scores of 67, 67, and 66. Harris finished with 16 birdies and two eagles across 54 holes at Grand Reserve Golf Club. His performance included tying for first in par-5 scoring average (4.17, -10) and tying for third in par-4 scoring average (3.80, -6) among an 85-player field.
He also achieved five head-to-head wins against players ranked in Clippd’s top-25, including Ben James from Virginia who is currently ranked number one. As a result, Harris moved up nearly 50 spots to No. 47 in this week’s Clippd Player Rankings and climbed four places to No. 11 in the latest PGA TOURU Rankings.
Harris has now won five tournaments during his time at South Carolina after transferring from Auburn, matching Kyle Thompson’s record for most individual wins in program history. This marks his fifth SEC Golfer of the Week award as a Gamecock, which is also a program record.
“This weekly honor is the fifth SEC Golfer of the Week award for Harris in his three seasons now as a Gamecock, the most in program history.”
Freshman Talan Harrison finished tied for 14th place at Puerto Rico Classic—his second top-20 finish out of five events this season—with rounds of 68, 69, and 70 leading to a new career-low score of 207 (-9). Like Harris, he recorded a team-high total of 16 birdies over three rounds and tied for second in par-3 scoring average (2.75, -3). This is Harrison’s first SEC Freshman of the Week recognition.
The Gamecocks are scheduled to compete next at Southern Highlands Collegiate in Las Vegas from March 1–3.
