South Carolina falls to Florida Gulf Coast in close beach volleyball match

South Carolina’s beach volleyball team was narrowly defeated by Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) with a score of 3-2 during the second match of the Dolphin Duals tournament in Jacksonville, Florida.

Julia Waugh and Evie Ziffer secured their second win as a pair this season, overcoming FGCU in three sets, 19-21, 21-17, 15-12. Juju Quintero and Annalyse Askew also earned their second victory together, winning in straight sets, 21-19, 21-15.

Despite these wins on courts two and four for South Carolina, FGCU claimed victories on courts one, three, and five. Additionally, FGCU won the exhibition match on court six. This allowed the Eagles to secure the overall match win.

The Gamecocks will continue competing at the Dolphin Duals with two matches scheduled for tomorrow at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

– Andrea Dretz/Sydney Majick (FGCU) defeated Jolie Cranford/Peyton Yamagata (USC) 21-19, 14-21, 15-9
– Juju Quintero/Annalyse Askew (USC) defeated Kaitlyn Beck/Elaina Millaway (FGCU) 21-19, 21-15
– Vanessa Moriarty/Kristina Gluc (FGCU) defeated VB Trost/Grace Travis (USC) 27-25, 21-18
Exhibition: Sailor Plasman/Emma Soncrant (FGCU) defeated Sadie Nelson/Lauren Lawson (USC) 21-17, 21-19
