South Carolina falls to Clemson in baseball rivalry matchup

The University of South Carolina baseball team lost 7-2 to No. 15 Clemson on Sunday at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. South Carolina took an early lead in the second inning when KJ Scobey singled and later scored along with Logan Sutter on a single by Dawson Harman. Clemson responded in the bottom of the same inning, tying the game with a run scored on a wild pitch and another on an RBI groundout.

Clemson added two more runs in the third inning and extended their lead to 5-2 with a solo home run by Ty Dalley. In the sixth, Tryston McCladdie delivered a two-run single, both unearned, for Clemson.

Dawson Harman led South Carolina’s offense with two RBIs. Riley Goodman was charged with the loss after giving up three runs over just over two innings while striking out two batters.

After the game, Josh Gunther received the Tom Price Award, which is presented to the Most Valuable Player of the Clemson series. Pitchers Josh Gregoire and Elijah Foster combined for 2.1 innings of hitless relief at the end of Sunday’s game. Over the series, South Carolina pitching held Clemson hitters to a .198 batting average. The total attendance across all three venues during this weekend’s series reached 23,400.

South Carolina will begin a five-game homestand starting Tuesday night against USC Upstate at Founders Park. The game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., and it will be streamed live on SEC Network Plus.
