South Carolina equestrian earns road victory over Baylor to start spring slate

The South Carolina Gamecocks women’s equestrian team, ranked No. 3 nationally, secured a 10-7 victory over Baylor in Waco, Texas, to open their spring schedule. This win marks the team’s first triumph at Baylor’s venue since the 2018-19 season.

The competition began with the Fences event, where South Carolina took an early lead by winning 3-1. Bella Primavera posted a season-high score of 87 on Red. Amira Kettaneh scored the first point for the Gamecocks with an 88-85 win against Emma Covarrubias on Cool and earned her fourth Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) honor of the season. Natalie Jayne and Grace Rabb also contributed points for South Carolina.

In Reining, Baylor edged out South Carolina by taking the event 2-1. The segment opened with two ties featuring Emily Patton and Olivia Cardi from South Carolina. Gracie Mae Stingle was the only Gamecock to earn a point in this event with a 68-66.5 win over Britt McIlnay.

On the Flat, Baylor won narrowly, defeating South Carolina 3-2. Points for the Gamecocks came from Sarah Rabb and Mary Hunter Millet, who defeated their respective opponents on Puzzle and Petey.

The meet concluded with Horsemanship, where South Carolina claimed four out of five points. Jordyn Humbert started off with a win on Layla. Senior captain Carly Jenkins added another point riding Vegas. Alexis Potts maintained her undefeated record for the year by overcoming Taylor Smith on Gracie, while Lillian Laney sealed both her own and her team’s final point riding Houdini.

South Carolina will continue its season against Southeastern Conference rival Texas A&M on Friday, January 30. Updates during meets are available via X and Instagram at @GamecockEQ.
