KJ Scobey led the University of South Carolina baseball team to an 8-2 victory over Wofford on Tuesday night at Fifth Third Park in Spartanburg. Scobey recorded four hits, including a home run, marking a career high.
Wofford started the scoring with a leadoff home run by Cade Collins. The Gamecocks responded in the third inning when Reese Moore drove in Jack Reynolds with a single to right field. In the fourth, South Carolina added two more runs on an RBI infield single from Reynolds and a single to center by Tyler Bak.
South Carolina extended its lead in the seventh inning. Aaron Jamison hit a sacrifice fly that brought Dawson Harman home, followed by Scobey’s infield hit that scored Moore.
In the ninth inning, Talmadge LeCroy hit a solo home run and Scobey added a two-run homer to left center, increasing the lead to 8-2.
Connor Chicoli was credited with the win after pitching five innings for South Carolina. He allowed five hits and one run while striking out four and walking none. Out of the bullpen, Elijah Foster, Cooper Parks, and Logan Prisco combined for four innings of relief work; Prisco struck out three batters over two innings.
Jack Reynolds made his first start as a Gamecock and went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Attendance at Fifth Third Park was reported as 4,891.
South Carolina will next play Gardner-Webb on Wednesday afternoon at Founders Park. The game is scheduled for 4 p.m. and will be available via streaming on SEC Network Plus.
