The South Carolina Gamecocks men’s baseball team will travel to Baton Rouge for a three-game Southeastern Conference series against Louisiana State University from May 1 to May 3.
This matchup is significant as both teams are competing for position in the SEC standings, and it marks the first time since 2021 that South Carolina has played at LSU’s home field. All games will be available via streaming on SEC Network Plus and broadcast on the Gamecock Sports Network presented by Learfield.
The probable pitching rotation for South Carolina features Amp Phillips starting Friday with a record of 3-5 and a 3.27 earned run average over 55 innings. Brandon Stone is set to pitch Saturday, holding a record of 5-2 with a 3.60 ERA in as many innings. Both teams have yet to announce their Sunday starters.
LSU comes into the series following a win over Southeastern Louisiana, highlighted by Derek Curiel’s three-hit performance and three runs scored. Curiel leads LSU with a .346 batting average, while Cade Arrambide has contributed thirteen home runs and thirty-five runs batted in this season. On the mound, William Schmidt has recorded four wins and seventy-two strikeouts in fifty-four innings pitched. Head coach Jay Johnson is now in his fifth season at LSU, having led the Tigers to national championships in both 2023 and 2025.
Historically, LSU holds an advantage in the all-time series with forty-six wins compared to thirty-three by South Carolina and one tie. The last meeting saw South Carolina win the opener against LSU last season behind KJ Scobey’s home run performance and relief pitching from Brandon Stone. The Gamecocks previously won two out of three games during their last trip to Baton Rouge in 2021.
Several connections exist between South Carolina personnel and Baton Rouge: Josh Gregoire hails from Baton Rouge; assistant coach Terry Rooney served on LSU’s staff during two separate stints; graduate assistant Caleb Westfall graduated from LSU after working as student manager for its baseball team.
Looking ahead, after taking time off for final exams next week, South Carolina will return home to host Alabama beginning May 8.
