U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) has issued a statement following a shooting at South Carolina State University. The incident resulted in the death of a young woman and left others injured.
Scott expressed condolences to those affected, stating, “My prayers are with the family and loved ones of the young woman who was killed, and for the full recovery of those injured at South Carolina State University.”
He also acknowledged the significance of homecoming events for university communities. “Homecoming is meant to be a time of celebration and community. My heart goes out to the entire Bulldog community as they face this tragic news,” Scott said.
The senator recognized law enforcement’s efforts in responding to the situation. “We are grateful to the law enforcement officers who responded swiftly to protect lives and who continue working diligently to bring answers and justice,” he added.
Scott concluded by emphasizing his ongoing commitment to campus safety: “In the face of such senseless violence, I remain committed to helping ensure that campuses are safe and secure learning environments for all.”
