U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.), who serves as Chairman of the Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Pointe Grand Beaufort, a new workforce housing development in Beaufort, South Carolina. The project is set to provide 328 affordable homes aimed at helping local workers such as teachers, nurses, and service industry employees live closer to their jobs.
During the event, Senator Scott spoke about the significance of affordable housing for working families. “This is about housing for doers. People who work hard, show up every day, and deserve a place to live close to their jobs and their families.”
Scott reflected on his own upbringing in a single-parent household. “My mom was a doer. She worked long shifts and then had a long drive home. Too often we forget the human cost of having to live so far away from work. When people can live closer, they get more rest, spend less on gas, and have more time with their families. That matters.”
He also addressed why projects like Pointe Grand Beaufort are important for communities: “When we put serving the community first, good things happen. You can do good and do well at the same time.”
Senator Scott highlighted that housing affordability remains one of the most urgent challenges facing Americans today. “If we don’t bring down prices and raise wages, we’re missing a golden opportunity to say to working families, ‘We see you. You matter. The American Dream should be yours.’”
On efforts to address these issues through bipartisan cooperation he said: “This isn’t a Republican issue or a Democrat issue. It’s an American Dream issue. When we put politics aside and focus on the people, we can get things done.”
